Champions After-school Program

San Bruno Park School District runs a braided after-school program that provides equitable access to our Champions after-school program at all school sites for both students in the parent pay model and the scholarship model.  To enroll students in the San Bruno Park Champions afterschool program ELOP scholarship program, parents must apply through the district application process.  To enroll students in the parent pay model of the San Bruno Park Champions program, parents enroll their child online at discoverchampions.com and register them for their school of attendance in San Bruno. Parents must re-enroll students annually.

26- 27 ELOP (scholarship) Program

San Bruno Park School District (SBPSD) will continue to provide an Extended Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP or ELO-Program)in partnership with Champions for the 2026-2027 school year for TK-6th grade students enrolled at all school sites.

Eligibility Information:  To comply with State requirements, students enrolled in the 2026-27 program must be:

  • SBPSD TK-6th grade students

  • unduplicated pupils. Per California Education Code 42238.02, an unduplicated pupil is a student enrolled in a school district who is classified as an English Language Learner, meets income or categorical eligibility for free or reduced meals under the National School Lunch Program, and/or is a Foster Youth.

2026-27 Registration: Please note that registration resets each year; no student is automatically enrolled for the following school year. All families interested in having their student participate in the program next year must complete the registration process.

  • Priority registration for students applying for ELOP scholarships will begin on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026. Families whose students were previously enrolled on a scholarship and those who were qualified as unduplicated this spring will receive an email, letter and phone call to begin the registration process if they are interested. Please be sure to respond to these outreach efforts in a timely manner to ensure enrollment. Enrollment in the afterschool program if on a scholarship must be through the district.

  • New student registration for students applying for ELOP scholarships: New students for the 2026-27 school year (including TK) who would like to apply for a scholarship will have an opportunity to apply in mid-July once our system rolls over for the 2026-27 school year. Eligibility will be determined in August. An email will be sent to all families in the district with instructions on how to begin the registration process. Enrollment in the afterschool program, if on a scholarship, must be through the district.

As a reminder, scholarships are limited based on the funding available, and space is limited in the after-school program.  Per SBPSD’s ELOP Plan, students who receive scholarships must attend the afterschool program full time.  Scholarships will be prioritized as follows:

  • 1st  Priority: Meet income or categorical eligibility for free or reduced meals under the  National School Lunch Program

  • 2nd Priority: Foster youth.

  • 3rd Priority: English learner

Scholarship status for all students will be confirmed in August.

What is ELOP?

ELOP stands for Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. The California Department of Education initiated this program.

“Expanded learning” means before-school, after-school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.

The California Department of Education (CDE) has identified specific requirements for districts implementing Extended Learning Programs. These requirements include, but are not limited to;

Priority given to students who meet the eligibility requirements of an unduplicated student. Per California Education Code 42238.02, an unduplicated student is a student enrolled in a school district who is either classified as an English learner, meets income or categorical eligibility for free or reduced meals under the National School Lunch Program, or is a foster youth.

When combined with the instructional day, the program must provide a 9 hour day for students.

The program must offer enrichment opportunities that engage students and that are based on student interests and provide a nutritious snack.

The program must be offered to students in Transitional Kindergarten through grade 6 who meet the unduplicated criteria.

The program must include 30 days of intersession (non-regular school days).

SBPSD’s ELOP Plan is updated annually and will go to the board for approval on August 12, 2026.
